You know the classic smart-ass response you'd get from your parents or grandparents or maybe even those corny friends when you'd ask someone to do something or grab something for you? They'd say it in a way that insinuated you were lazy but always seemed to make you grin a little, in the same way that a cheesy dad joke does.
I'm sure you know at least one along the lines of this one:
"Well, you've got two feet and a heartbeat, don't ya?!"
Ya, I love that one.
It takes me back to a time when my family was all crammed into my grandma's old, too-small dining room having a good time, laughing, and eating good (no, fricken amazing) food after having chased all our cousins around in the snow for an hour beforehand.
The phrase also makes me think of our yearly camping trips growing up, where my parents and our family friends would take our tents and little trailers out to different campgrounds and spend the week in the sun, hiking and picking blueberries or building giant castles on the beach while ruining dinner from too many marshmallows.
Yenno, my mom's family of 7 aunts DEFINITELY told ya off with this saying, probably with at least 3 of them breaking out in cackling laughter afterward, too. Their sense of humor has always been a little nutso...
And honestly, it even reminds me of the family and friends I have on the prairies still. Some have been close to me since preschool, others from high school, and a couple even started just as "coworkers" before becoming a huge part of my life.
"Two feet and a heartbeat", hey? The blog that lets the people closest to me know what I'm up to, where I am headed, and the new adventures my "lazy" butt is headed on!
To anyone who reaches this blog and wants to know a bit about me, let me introduce myself: I go by Ally - hi-hello! Even though you may not be my family or close friend, I am excited to share the stories of my little life with everyone!
I have a dog named Valencia, I have a boyfriend named Carson and I am in the process of moving across the country! British Columbia to be precise.
I grew up in the prairies of Canada with the wind tying knots in my hair and the mud and grass permanently staining my clothes, much to my mother's dismay. B.C. has been calling me since I first learned to snowboard. Then, I went tree planting for multiple summers and completely fell in love with the province. After graduating from university in Manitoba, I am relocating to the west coast where my boyfriend currently lives!
Please follow along in my journey and feel free to share your stories with me as well :)
